A Weekend Getaway in New York City with the App: TripleSpot

Triple Spot App
I’ve honestly thought for a while that I would take the fall off from travelling. Stay put. Reenergize. Take a breath.

I should know by now, that’s like telling a hummingbird to sit still. No matter how hard I try, there always seems to be adventure knocking at the door. This year has been so intense that I haven’t truly stopped or taken a break since May 2012. That’s a LOT of travel.

As I wrap up my trip to Croatia you would think I would just be hopping on a flight home to take “a vacation from my vacation” as my Grandma would say. Surprise, surprise that’s not what’s happening as usual.

I got an email recently by a new app called TripleSpot. Dubbed your Social Guidebook, the app helps you discover and capture your adventures and share them with travellers and locals alike. TripleSpot wanted to know if I had any weekend trips coming up and if I’d be interested in giving the app a test drive.

I was planning to slow down and relax right? Hmmm. You don’t have to twist my arm too hard to convince me to travel so instead of flying home from Croatia, I’m fly to NEW YORK CITY!

Yep, the Big Apple better get ready for me.

So, here’s the deal: I have 2 nights and 3 days to venture around the city, finding unique experiences, sharing them on the app and having an all around good time.

Essentially, when I find something I want others to know about, I can make a ‘spot‘, add a picture and a note or caption with a focus on insider tips. That little something extra that if you know, your experience will be even better.

Example: I find a cozy little bar in SoHo and find out the bartender named Ricky makes the best caesar in town. I than make a note of that on TripleSpot so that when you stop by, you know to find Ricky and ask for that killer caesar.
(Note: This is a fictional example. There is no Ricky, caesars are only a Canadian drink and even if Ricky served them, I’d never order one. I’ve never liked clamato juice.)

TripleSpot AppNew York is a MASSIVE city and I have no intention on doing everything. I’d need a second lifetime, if not five. This weekend will be about discovering some of the hidden gems, chatting up locals for their secret favs and embracing the beauty that is the fall, all while sharing my experience on TripleSpot

Now, here’s where you come in:

First, consider downloading TripleSpot. I’ve been playing around with it’s features and honestly love how sharp and ecstatically pleasing it is. A clunky app makes for a grumpy user. Brock, he’s a happy app user. It is available both on Android & iPhone, so give your appropriate device a click and it will take you to the page for downloading info.

If you do download TripleSpot, before the weekend, you can actually follow along on my adventures in NYC. I’ll be using my only special tag: brockspots
Through the weekend (or anytime after for that matter) you can search that tag and all Spot descriptions I’ve used it in will pop up – which is essentially all of them.

I’m excited to try out a new way of sharing my adventures with you, so if you do hop on the app and follow along, I’d LOVE to know.

Second, I am totally open to suggestions of places and things I should try to checkout this weekend. Restaurants, statues, knick knack shops, graffiti alleys. I’m game for it all.

NYC TripleSPotI’ve been making a short list of some of my priorities which include: The High Line, Central Park, neighbourhoods including Chelsea and the East Village, somewhere with wicked pizza, an antique shop and a bar with a Canadian caesar, to name a few.
My goal is to create 20 new ‘Spots’ and since this is New York City after all, I suspect I’ll blow that out of the water.

If you have suggestions, secrets and tips for what I can do to have the best weekend in New York I’m all ears. Connect with me in anyway you’d like and I’ll add your ideas to the list. Even if I don’t get to them this weekend, I will certainly be back.

Finally, the fun doesn’t stop in NYC. As I head home, and eventually to other places (remember, I can’t sit still), I’d like to continue posting spots to TripleSpot so feel free to check for brockspots as you head to new destinations. Also, if you think you find something I’d like, feel free to use the brockspots so I can find it, and others too.

This is no doubt going to be an awesome weekend getaway to NYC. I haven’t been there for a couple years now and am excited to discover as much new as I can.

Special thanks to the TripleSpot team for finding my adventures exciting and inviting me to be one of the first to experience the awesome of their app.

New York City, let’s do this shall we?
