Stop number two on our journey to the Indian north, it’s Mumbai. One of the largest and most advanced cities in India, Mumbai to some is known as Bombay. During our visit, we check out the Gateway of India, Elephanta Island, and give our stomachs a break with some McDonalds. Yes, I know, gross right? When all you’ve been eating is rice for a month, something Western is necessary to balance things out…even if it is McD’s.

One thing Brock forgot to mention in this video is that the temperature on Elephanta Island (and most of northern India when we were there) that day was at least +43 degrees Celsius……for Canadian boys: that’s HOT! Even our local guide that was born on the island was sweating his face off!
It looked hot. There seemed to be a lot more green than I’ve seen so far in India. BTW Brock, I think you owe a certain somebody an apology for hassling them for their dining choice after seeing this video with the Golden Arches.
I was just in Mumbai, loved it! Sad I didn’t have time to get to Elephanta, so thanks for “taking” me there.
@Darren – oh yes, it was boiling. Everyone was soaking wet. I certainly don’t miss that.
@Teresa – Yes, there was actual grass in Mumbai. I never noticed that till you mentioned it. Good eye. As for the Golden Arches, I guess you are right an apology is due. However, we had been eating rice three times a day with our hands for a month…
@Andi – Glad I could help you visit it. You point out something so fantastic about travel blogs, they often take us places we will never get to see in person. Glad you enjoyed Mumbai. Everyone check out Andi’s travels at: mybeautifuladventures.com
We ate at that exact McDonalds! At least I think. Was it in Colaba, on the main road just around the corner from Taj Mahal Palace and Gateway?
Ahh, the blue sleeper trains of India. Brought back some interesting memories. Chai, Chai, Chai…. Chai, Chai, Chai!
@Traveling Canucks – Yes, I believe that was the one. Right by all the street with all the little stalls. As for the trains, we should meet up for a coffee some day just so we can laugh about things like ‘Chai Chai Chai.’ I like that you know the references.
