The Backpack with Brock Foodbyte – India Edition

Here it is again, the Backpack with Brock Foodbyte. This time we are coming to you from India. There are many delicious foods in India and I am a fan of most of them. Unfortunately however, we didn’t get to eat most of the foods during our visit to the motherland. Very unfortunate. We did however get a very good surprise from restaurant you would never connect to India. In fact it’s not at all but they served up one of the best meals we ate in our two month visit. Presenting: The Indian McVeggie

I thought the beauty of McDonald’s was that it tasted the same no matter where you were. You should enthusiastically try McDonald’s on every continent

@Teresa – Yes, I think it does. But most countries have one or two unique dishes. For some reason India had tons of new dishes. Likely because they can’t have any pork or beef in anything. There goes most of the McD’s menu.

Loved the McAloo Tikki :-) Wish I was back in India!

As vegetarian-leaning “flexitarians,” we haven’t eaten at McD’s in a long time. We might reconsider if they had McVeggie Burgers available, it sounds good!

Most people think that McDonalds’ food tastes the same all around the world and that the menu is the same. BUT not true! Though you can usually get the staples, like the Big Mac and the McChicken, McDonalds often adds a local twist!

In China I had corn…it came in the little plastic cups that McDonalds serves sundaes in here in North America. They also had some sort of Asian Big Mac that had different sauces on it with an asian-food flare. Oh, and their ice-cream desserts were wacked! They had neon ice creams.

BUT I’m a vegetarian along with “Tandem World”! So I enjoyed the McVeggies in India (and Germany has them too), but I wish they were in N.America!

@Traveling Canucks – Ah! I like the Chicken Maharaja. In fact I liked most of there options, that sadly we don’t have in North America. Now, do I go back to India just to try them? We’ll think about it.

Tracy – Wow. The McAloo Tiki! My mouth is watering. Glad I am not the only traveler who felt the need to hit up McD’s in India.

@Tandem World – ‘Flexitarians’, haven’t heard that one before. I’ll have to look it up. Yes. It’s certainly worth a try. You could always head to India next to try it.

@Darren – Great point. Where ever you go you find different specialties. China had some weird dessert. I make a point of stopping into one in each country just to try something, even though I don’t eat McD’s back home.

I still cannot drag myself to eat at Micky Ds when abroad. If I don’t do it at home, I just can’t do it abroad.

@Erica – India is the exception to the rule for me. It was part of the culture. SOOO good.
