I traveled through Europe for 9 months last year and I spent a little over $11,000 in the process. I detailed my expenses on my website http://bicycletouringpro.com/blog/how-much-does-it-cost-to-travel-in-europe/

I saved money by 1) traveling with my bicycle, which saved me money on train, auto and boat transportation.

…and 2) I rented apartments for long periods of time (from 2-6 weeks). When you stay for only 1 or 2 nights, you are paying FULL PRICE. but when you stay in one location for several weeks you can negotiate the price of your stay way, way down.

I traveled through Austria, Slovakia and Croatia for one whole month and spent only $600. Traveling in Europe can indeed be super cheap!
