I’ve seen some pretty RANDOM things while travelling the world but this ‘Mobile’ Hot Dog Vendor, that I spotted in Berlin, Germany, is in a class all it’s own!
Back in my home, Toronto, we have Street Meat. Essentially, they are hot dog stands that sell hot dogs, sausages and cold drinks. After a day of walking or night on the town, they are perfect for a quick bite to eat.
The hot dog stands in Toronto or anywhere else I’ve visited have always been on wheels. They have a little canopy for the rain and can be hooked up to a car and pulled away at the end of the day. The cook can listen to the radio or sit down and read when it gets slow.
This Hot Dog Vendor IS the stand.
He is cooking on a grill attached to his waste and is protected from the sun by an umbrella. On his little shelf there is ketchup, mustard and other toppings. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are drinks as well.
Not only would it be heavy to carry all day – but would having a grill attached to you not be…dangerous?
What if it catches on fire? What if it blows up? What if you have to go to the bathroom? What if it’s 35 degrees celsius outside and you have a grill hooked on to you?!
AND he only gets 1.20 euros per bratwurst!!!
I’m not usually a fan of saying ‘What If?’ but if someone asked me to do this job I would ask all the ‘What If?’ questions above and a whole lot more!
I wouldn’t be surprised if this dude is some poor backpacker that desperately needed a job and cash. If so, hopefully he invested in some annual travel insurance because his job is likely considered ‘high risk’. If he hasn’t bought it yet, that measly 1.20 euro for each bratwurst means he’ll definitely be going for one of the more budget options for his travel insurance.
Womp Womp!
I actually feel bad for the guy.
There’s some strange, crappy jobs out there. Being a mobile hot dog vendor is certainly one of them!
Have you ever seen one of these mobile hot dog vendors? Would you do this job…if you were desperate?

HAHA, that’s pretty random man
We totally saw one of these in Berlin! The “cart” looked a little different than this, but it was the same concept. And I had the same thought as you – wouldn’t it be dangerous to have a burner so close to your bum?
The true definition of location independent.
I totally saw one of these guys when I was in Berlin a few weeks ago! I had to do a double take then I look like 10 photos of him and the next day I saw a guy and girl both doing it!
Its like a weird Halloween costume! haha
I would not do that job, I complain enough as it is when my purse gets heavy haha
This is totally cool! If there’s no business, you can simply walk anywhere to look for it. Heck! You can even walk into offices during lunch hour. Very smart idea so if I was really out of a job, I would consider doing this in my own country!
Hah! This is great!
Ha ha! Did you take this photo at Alexanderplatz? I see them everyday when I’m coming home from work. I often wonder if they fear for their safety, but at least they have an umbrella!
That’s pretty cool! Good on him…but yeah I wouldn’t take that job
that is nutty! i can’t say that I’ve ever seen anything quite like that before!! thanks for sharing that bit of specialness
Hahah – I love these guys! They’re always there when I need them
