Exploring Franconia Notch State Park – New Hampshire, USA

On my road trip visit to the beautiful US state of New Hampshire, the very first stop was the Franconia Notch State Park.

Because the summer season was not quite underway the park had yet to open. Still, I was given a wonderful behind the scenes tour by the park staff showing me two of their biggest attractions:

The Basin & The Flume.

If you aren’t sure what to do and see when you visit, these two stops are a must. Check them out this video from my my time at Franconia Notch Park.

Be sure to check out their visiting hours, fees and directions by checking the Cannon Mountain website.

You can also get more info about the other parks in New Hampshire including Franconia Notch by visiting the State Park Website or by visiting the New Hampshire Website.

    Hey Brock!

It’s funny that you posted about Franconia Notch State Park. Of all of the places you’ve been, I’ve finally been somewhere you have:

    New Hampshire Pictures

We were actually on a road trip up to Canada, stopped off in New Hampshire for a bathroom break and just happened to notice this state park by pure luck. When we saw it was $13 for entry, we’re thinking.. is this really worth it? Not knowing it was actually a major park and yes, it was totally worth it! We were there towards the end of the day so the shadows gave it a spooky appearance in between the granite.

Really cool park if anyone is passing through NH.

Love those covered bridges – saw some pretty ones in Pennsylvania. Fantastic geology and hiking country in New Hampshire!

I’ve never been to New Hampshire, but a dear friend just moved out that way and I’d LOVE to go exploring when I visit her. :-)

I know so little about this part of the US. Great that they showed you a few spots even though they were not yet open for the season.

We absolutely love Franconia Notch and the whole White Mountain region. We’re up there several times a season — winter, summer — we love it! Great place for snow shoeing or cross country skiing if you are ever there in the winter. I’m going up in a few weeks to do the Franconia Ridge hike. Glad you made it up this way!

I’m not much on the great outdoors, but if there were ever a place to change that, this is it..

Awesome post and the video, superb and perfect. I just loved this kind of travel blog. The covered bridge by the way is as old as even the granting of Independence to the Philippines :)

    Cheers :)

@Natasha – I adore the covered bridges. Something about them is just so postcard perfect and storied.

@Kirsta – Sounds like two VERY good reasons to get to New Hampshire.

@Stephanie – Ya, I was surprised by what New Hampshire had to offer. It can be a bummer travelling in low season but it means you often get a backstage pass.

@Ellen – Thanks for the tips! I think it’d be cool to explore in winter as well. I could go for some snowshoeing!
