Three days in Lhasa, Tibet and we are the road, making our way to Namtso Lake – the highest lake in the world. There we come across some learning monks, cold ‘hotel rooms’, icy waters and LOTS of Yaks.
Lhasa, Tibet Pt. II – Nunneries and Debating Monks
Continuing my enlightening journey through Tibet, it is part to have Lhasa. In this episode we visit Sera Monastery to watch monks debating in the courtyard then make our way to a nunnery for a different look at Tibetan buddhism.
Lhasa, Tibet Pt I – Potola Palace and Jokhang Temple
They call it the rooftop of the world. It’s magical, the scenery is mesmerizing and the people are gentle and charming. This is Tibet. In this video my dream to visit Tibet finally comes true. Join me as I visit my first city, Lhasa. I explore Potola Palace and Jokhang Temple and see pilgrims praying [...]
Beijing, China – Pt II – The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square
Once you’ve seen the Terracotta Warriors & The Great Wall of China, you wonder if Beijing, China has anything else to offer. But, alas, it does. In this video I wrap up my visit to China by checking out the Forbidden City, historic Tiananmen Square, eat some peking duck and say farewell to Ash: my [...]
The Great Wall of China
It is the adventure I have probably looked forward to most in China and finally it has come around. Backpack with Brock is taking on the Great Wall of China. I have heard about it since I was a little kid, seen it in movies, books and online, still nothing could prepare me for the [...]
‘Bet Brock’: Bug’s Edition
It’s the second edition of ‘Bet Brock’. Last time, I managed to eat an entire Cobra Snake. This time, I’m eating as well, but it’s not snake – it’s bugs. Jane and Caitlin have bet me to eat a Starfish, Seahorse, Grasshopper, Stinky Tofu & Scorpian. Yikes! It turned out to be a bigger challenge [...]
Beijing, China – Dancing at the Summer Palace
Beijing, China. It’s seen a lot of controversy in it’s time but I finally arrived making it my third stop in China. It was clear from the start there would be a lot to do and see in this city. In this episode I put my best foot forward and visit the Summer Palace where [...]
Xi’an, China – The Terracotta Warriors
It took 12 hours on an overnight train to get there, but I knew I could not come to China and not see the Terracotta Warriors. My jaw dropped as soon as I saw them and I’m still amazing that man kind could make something like this and then let it go missing for so [...]
Shanghai, China – Dumplings & Jacket Shopping
It’s my very first official Chinese stop. Shanghai! I’ll be quite honest that this city didn’t do much for me. Perhaps it was getting scammed by a taxi driver, or the terrible flight to get there or the incident that occurred when buying my winter coat. Whatever it was, I am in no rush to [...]
Hong Kong – Modern, Trendy and Big
After almost 2 months in South East Asia, it was time to carry on to something a bit different. That something different would be Hong Kong! It was much more developed and bustling then I expected but I guess that comes with being a financial powerhouse in the world. In this episode, I couchsurf with [...]
Vientiane, Laos – NGOs and UXOs
Tubing down the Nam Song in Vang Vieng was a riot but my body needed a break – not to mention a good shower. It got both of these things when I arrive in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. I was greeted by the awesome Sami and Saara, who offered me there spare room for [...]
Vang Vieng, Laos: Tubing Down the Nam Song River
It’s the second stop in Laos: Vang Vieng. Each year I like to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day the proper way. Surrounded by friends, enjoying eachothers company and a beer or two (or three). This year I decided to take it to a whole new level when I heard about Tubing in Vang Vieng. Essentially, you [...]
Luang Prabang, Loas – Water Falls and Morning Monks
After enjoying busy bustling Hanoi, Vietnam, I fly to Luang Prabang, Loas and try it on for size. I rise early in the morning to feed the monks, take in a water fall and get a little wonky from Beer Lao.
