Snapshot: The ‘That Was Tasty’ Lion Photo

Lion Photo

This lion photo was taken while one of my looooong time dreams was coming true.

Since I was a little kid I wanted to experience The Great Migration. In October 2010 – that hope became a reality. I set out on a 3 day safari through Kenya’s Maasai Mara. We saw most of the big five: cheetahs, African elephants, cape buffalo, leopards, but no rhinos. There were also a ton of wildebeests, zebras (yes, I got a sweet zebra picture as well), hippos, and more birds than I care to recall.

You can actually see my experience for yourself by watching my safari video of The Great Migration. You know you want to…

Getting My Lion Photo

On day two, we came across a pack of lionesses that had most likely just finished eating their kill.

This classy gal was just chilling out, licking her chops!

I steadied my camera and snapped away until – BAM – I scored this sweet shot, my favourite lion photo of the safari.

She looks so pleased with whatever she joyfully chowed down on and is cleaning in between those massive sword like teeth.

YIKES!

At one point during the same safari, we had to get out for a picnic. I was not keen to do this having seen the thousands of creatures lurking around the area.

Our guide assured us that we were in a safe spot but to be honest, it took a lot of nerve to hop out of that van!

Fortunately for us, the only time we didn’t see any teeth baring creatures was while we were having out picnic.

Unscathed, I headed back to our camp, tired from a long day of looking at things (who would have thought) but proud of my top notch lion photo and the hundreds of other videos and photos I took!

What do you think of this snapshot? Like it? Dislike it? LOVE it even?
Ever been this close to teeth like that?
