A Newfoundland & Labrador Wilderness Vista

Labrador VistaIt’s a tale of determination. A tale of risk. A tale of adventure.

As you likely know, this past summer, I got to visit Newfoundland with my aunt and mother. A much anticipated trip, we fell in love with the central and western regions of the province that we explored.

We were driving our own car and during the week or so that we were there, we never really ran into any problems. No flat tires, no moose, no traffic. Piece of cake!

Things changed however when it came time to leave the island and make the journey back home to Ontario. By fluke, a ferry delay left us somewhat stranded and panicking on the island as both my aunt and mother had to get back to work. Yikes!

While this was a fluke scenario and just a bit of bad luck – something can happen on any trip – we had to think fast and get creative in order to get home.

Now, I’m not going to release all details just now, I want to save that for a full out post and video on the experience, but wanted to give you a taste of what’s to come.

The above picture is one of many from the route we had to take back to Toronto and as you can see, there’s a whole lot of wilderness up in here. This snapshot is easily one of my favourites. So green. Such moody clouds above.

Because of this snag, our journey time home doubled and we listened to the same soundtracks over and over and over again. The three of us naturally learnt a LOT about each other.

I am so excited to share this story with you in the new year and even more excited that we made it out alive. Truly a once in a lifetime experience.

What I can say now is that as you plan your travels for 2014, be sure to be prepared. From researching your destination and getting protection, to finding the best travel pals and knowing your escape plan for getting off an island like we should have figured out, there is a lot you can do before leaving to make sure your trip goes as smooth as possible.

Regardless, a positive attitude is going to get you through any travel glitch. Just be sure to stop and appreciate incredible vistas like this one.
