Review of Red House Hostel – St. Petersburg, Russia

Having had such a stellar stay at Chillax Hostels in Moscow, my standards were set pretty high as I arrived at my hostel in St. Petersburg.Red House Hostel Lobby

My new home for the next week would be Red House Hostel.

My three travel pals and I came in by overnight train and with a quick metro ride and short walk we were soon checking in and dropping our bags.

Once again, the location was stellar. Right near the center, we were able to walk to some of the main sights (like the Church of Spilt Blood) and easily take the metro or bus anywhere that seemed a bit far by foot.

The hostel has a trendy vibe that makes you feel like a hip backpacker rather than someone sleeping on a budget. The colours and furniture were all clearly thought out.

Here’s a quick look at the inside of the hostel:

A few details about the hostel:

Internet: They had strong wifi, laptops for travellers without one to use and a nice spot for you to sit and catch up on emails, pictures and the works.

Kitchen: I felt it was well stocked and the refrigerator was very clean.Red House Hostel Kitchen

Beds: No complaints about the beds although the room was a bit tight for space. It was tricky finding a spot for my bag. There were curtains on the lower bunks and each bed had a light and plug.

Lockers: The hostel provides the key and they are located in the room. They were big enough to fit all my valuables.

Bathroom:  Unisex bathrooms with two showers and two toilets. The door closes on the shower so you have privacy, not to mention the water was warm and strong.

Red House Hostel DormLocation: Coming in by train as I did, it was straightforward to get to the hostel my metro. The Hermitage and other main sites are a close walk.

Price: At time of writing, beds ranged from $19-$20 per night. There was also a private room for $80 per night.

Staff: Helpful when we needed information and someone was always at the front desk. Red House Hostel Lounge

Other: There is a washing machine in the kitchen we could use for free and racks for drying in the lounge and dorm room. There was breakfast each morning that consisted of bread, jam and cereal. They also offer VISA assistance when you are planning your trip to Russia.

Once again, I would stay here on my next visit to St. Petersburg. The city is so beautiful and this hostel set us on the right foot to explore it.
