The Friday Five – What To Do In 2012

It’s Friday Five Time!!
Something told me this morning it was a good day for a Friday Five…although tech issues are now sending a different message.

This Friday 5 features five places to visit and things to do in 2012.

Either you can watch above or read it below.

While reading is fun…the video is a lot more fun!

There’s are a ton of events, exhibitions and major dates throughout this year. Many, take place in a certain city and as usual, become a tourism draw.

In 2011, it was Machu Picchu as it celebrated it’s 100th anniversary of international acclaim. But for 2012, I’ve compiled some of the main destinations you might want to consider and why.

At #5, it’s London, England. As they will be playing host to the 2012 Summer Olympic Games – the city is sure to be a buzzin’. London already packs a pretty powerful punch when it comes to tourism and is always full of people. Now with a couple extra million in town, it might just be chaos. Hostels & hotels will surely be booked and couches will be full. If you’re thinking of going, grabbing a flat before all of the London holiday apartments are taken might be a good idea! You can’t sleep in the tube ya know…

At #4, it’s Rejkjavik, Iceland. The Northern Lights are expected to be the best they’ve been in about 50 years. It’s basically a light show in the sky and some say they can be so bright in Iceland that you can read a book under them. Talk about saving on power. Even without the northern lights, Iceland seems to be a pretty hot spot to visit these days. Head on over and boost that economy!

At #3, Mexico! Sun, sand, and tequila! What’s not to love? But more importantly, Mexico has the spotlight this year because of the Mayan calendar and the fact that it ends in 2012. Many believe this will also be the end of the world! Uh oh. Many who love the hype of it all will be heading to Mexico to be a part of the buzz and heck, why not spend the end of days relaxing on the beach. TEQUILA!

At #2, Canada! Ok, a bit of bias here I know, but I honestly do have a good feeling about Canada this year. A few friends from abroad have shown interest in visiting, I want to see more of it myself, and yes, I’m here! Come visit yours truly. Additionally, if you want some alone time, Canada is where it’s at. Being the 2nd biggest country in the world we’ve got plenty of room for you to go exploring without anyone to bother you – except for bears and beavers that is…

And at #1 – Belfast, Northern Ireland. On April 15, 1912 the ‘unsinkable’ Titanic, hit an iceberg and sunk to the bottom of the Atlantic, killing 1517 passengers and making it the most tragic and infamous ship disaster in history. 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of this event and Belfast is ready for it. A Titanic visitor centre costing £97 million has been built and the epic film will be re-released and available for viewing in theatres but this time, in 3D. Ooouuu Ahhhh. If I could get Belfast, I’d be there to see it for myself.

And, that’s the Friday 5! Five suggestions of what to do in 2012!
