Taking a break while you travel is something I’ve advocated for a few times on this blog – especially when you are travelling long term as I do.
After my incredibly amazing visit to Machu Picchu just outside of Cuzco, Peru, I made my way to the sand dune paradise that is Huacachina.
The Hua is actually pronounced ‘Wa’ in case you are trying to ask someone where it’s located.
Everything I had been told about this place was true – it was the perfect place to chill out, get a little R&R in, work on your tan and have a blast sand boarding.
The Canadian gals from Montreal, Julie and Megan joined me and we stayed at the El Huacachinero. Stay there – it’s awesome!
After relaxing by the pool and sipping on some pisco sours, Julie joined me for some wicked dune buggy and sand boarding exhilaration as we took the sand, hopped on a snowboard and slid down the side of the dunes.
We then wrapped up the day with a lovely sunset, perched atop a dune.
It was perfect.
As the girls continued north, I decided to stay put and relax for a few more days, catch up on some work and get my fill of those pisco sours before making my way to my next stop: Lima!
Have you ever tried sand boarding? If not, would you?
