If you’re in the UK this spring, here is a great guest post with some suggestions of places to go and things to do!
Spring is finally here! Time to wriggle off your hibernation clothes and leave the house. But where can you spend a fun getaway with all the family? There are more options in the UK than you might think. You don’t have to go oversees to have a fantastic short break. Here are some of our favourite places to stay:
Mill Stream Cottage, Pen Pynfarch
Some of the wilder areas of Wales are arguably the most beautiful locations in the country. Live the contented country life for a week, with your very own charming cottage. Catering for up to five people, Mill Stream Cottage is pet-friendly, and well looked after by the owners. They’ll make sure you’re nicely settled in with a hamper, and direct you towards local and organic produce. With its very own logburner and lovely gardens, how could you resist this countryside idyll for just £275 per week?
In another life, this tiny cottage was a simple fisherman’s dwelling, but now it’s a beautiful 1840s building overlooking a cove. Situated right on the bay, your accommodation is sheltered by rugged, rocky cliffs. You’ll be surrounded by wildlife and water for four nights and £111.
Shrewsbury is a picturesque historic town, and this hotel is a lovely place to rest your head for the night. The rooms are charming but quirky, and if you want a late night tipple, they have a great bar, as well as a restaurant – a fantastic place to spend a lazy weekend.
The Granary At Maud Foster Mill
The windmill and granary were built in 1819, and now you can stay inside the mill itself. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to bring the kids, but you’ll have plenty to do: there’s a digital TV, a Blu-ray player, and free Wi-fi. All the basic groceries will be provided for you on your arrival, so you don’t have to worry about things like ketchup. You’ll even receive a loaf of bread that’s created by the mill you’re sleeping in!
Wedged into medieval walls that date back to 1180, this historic building is both luxurious and homely. We hope you like shabby chic, as this is the dominating theme. You can also enjoy an artisan deli that serves charcuterie boards, salads and glasses of wine. The Pig In The Wall serves great food, and allows you to enjoy the best that Southampton has to offer.
For short breaks in Kent, we’d certainly recommend Port Lympne’s Livingstone Lodge. You can have an exciting safari experience in the UK and wake up to the sounds of the savannah!
In one of the most popular surfing areas in the UK, you can enjoy a lovely stay at Watergate Bay Hotel, right on the shore. This would be the perfect opportunity to practice your boarding skills or learn how to surf! The rooms themselves are designed to be contemporary beach chic and there’s a restaurant on-site, serving great food. Relax and enjoy the waves.
