So, there’s this game I play with fellow travellers. Whether it’s to break the ice, stir up conversation or simply find out what places people want to visit, it’s always fun.
I’ll explain how exactly it works in another post but today I want to address something that has continuously come up each time we play.
I have not travelled through Central America.
I’ve travelled to Asia, Oceania, Europe, Africa, South America and my own backyard, North America, but I have not made it yet to the Central American region.
Ridiculous – I know.
What I find funny about it is that I’m pretty sure I would be in heaven there. All the little bits I have been exposed to through living in Toronto, visiting South America, other bloggers experiences and so on tells me it’s the place for me.
With this on my mind I did a little Google mapping and came up with a list of the Top 5 countries to visit in Central America – for me at least.
Let’s give it a go!
1. CUBA
Ok, this is a slightly odd one to start with because I’ve actually been to Cuba BUT it was at a resort and I don’t feel like I actually ‘travelled’ or ‘explored’ the country. Fr0m cubano sandwiches to the super friendly people – Cuba is on high priority in Backpack With Brock’s travel plans. In fact, I had planned to go on my 2010 trip but just couldn’t swing it.
2. PANAMA
Not only does it connect Central America to South America but Panama is home to many animals, plants and birds that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. I’m not a bird guy personally, but in case you are, now you know. I’ve had a few friends spend time in Panama and all have come back more in love with the region then when they left. If that’s not enough temperatures rarely drop below the mid 20’s or go above 32. I’m sold!
3. BARBADOS
Oh Barbados – you look unbelievable. Not only are Barbados holidays extremely popular for honeymoons and anniversaries alike – it was also put on the map in a BIG way by Rihanna. Yep, she was born and raised on the island.
Side note – there is very little corruption apparently. I loves me a destination where corruption is not an issue as much as the next guy.
4. PUERTO RICO
Oh Puerto Rico – you’ve been on my radar for quite some time. I’m not exactly sure but I just know I’ve got to visit this island. All the photos I’ve seen say nothing but paradise. Not to mention, it’s also home to another singing superstar – Ricky Martin!
5. COSTA RICA
Like Puerto Rico, I honestly don’t know why its on my mind but I seem to always hear great things about Costa Rica and have met a lot of travellers who love it there. And it looks beautiful- so lets go!
And there you have it, my own little list of the top places I want to visit in Central America. I’m sure it will change over time and I likely won’t get to these countries first but you got to start somewhere.
Now I’d love you to weigh in.
Where would you like to visit in Central America? Or maybe there’s a place I’ve not included that I should have?
